The tragic reverse outcome of what the participants expected. Example: When Beowulf is fighting the dragon you would expect all of his men to help him, but instead only one does. |
Definition:
The most noble and most deserving person, because of the very grounds of his or her excellence, dies in defeat. Example: After a life of fighting for his people, Beowulf dies in his battle with the dragon. |
